Thinking about life 2018-28

Thinking about life    2018-28

We all go through lives with the same number of hours in the day. What we do in those hours are mostly up to us, with some work, some play, eating meals, commuting here and there, and other necessary chores of life.

Hour after hour we use them to accomplish things we must or want to do. BUT, how many of us get caught up in mundane actions that do not really matter in the long run of things in life?

Could we, if we tried, look at many things differently?  To take the time to just look into the eyes of someone or something we love and let that one know how much we appreciate and love them, would be terrific.

Or, tell a friend the same thing with conviction and meaning. To try to look at others with another outlook and see them in a diverse light. To say than you to anyone that did something out of the ordinary in a special way.

To change our opinion on someone of another color, religion, creed, ethnicity, or anything else which is foreign to us in our way of living.  To actually TALK with one of those “others” and ask them a question about their way of life, which is contrary to ours. It is TOO easy to ignore them and go on with our lives, doing our things, and wondering about them and their things.

Do we stay in a clam shell of living and exclude what we are uncomfortable with, and keep our ignorance and not expand our knowledge? IF we do, we are NOT growing, but instead, staying stagnant in our lives. We can make excuses, but that is all they are and, reality is, we are snobs of our own making.

We COULD be afraid to do anything, as it will maybe make us vulnerable to ridicule or worse yet, make us stand out to someone.  We do NOT want that to happen, do we? Yet, it is easy to criticize and not know another person that belongs to any group we are uncertain of and let our unawareness rule.

Oh well, that is said, and I can move on in my slap happy way and think I am so great in saying all this, which is bull crap to some anyway.

God’s Gift 2018-07

How many of us get a second chance in life? How many of us, don’t realize it, when it happens? I would think many of us, but I am not going to include myself in asking this, since I did get a second chance and do appreciate what I received. I was born, I then had two experiences, one physical and the other involving my brain, and in a way, then, was born again, in my mind.

God’s Gift  2018-07

God’s gift to me was life,

The beginning followed by rebirth

The many past years of living,

Plus, a second chance on earth

From year one, till now, an experience,

Thought of, as one to succeed.

This period to reflect on past times

In ways of thought, words and deed.

For now, my life is renewed with joy

But this time with insight, from today

It’s hard to change to a new lifestyle

From the old archaic way

But with this chance He has given me

I’ll be a better me, than was

Time will tell if I succeed in this

But God’s gift to me is thus.

To start over, renew, and rejoice

To give, to share, and enjoy this life

To look at living as a thing to treasure

And live each day as one with pleasure.

There MIGHT be a hidden message in the above. It could be about life in general or maybe, about living a Christian life, as a disciple of Jesus Christ.  I like to say, either way, but think both ways are/were great……

Oh Hell, Oh Well 2017-45

Oh Hell, Oh Well 2017-45

“Oh Hell”, could be a standard expression for so many things.  What to say when things go wrong. How to cope with the unexpected. How to deal with life in general, I guess.

We, as humans, get involved with everything under the Sun, and then, must live with our actions, our mistakes, our foibles with others, and the untold realities of life.

The crappy, clutter of our brain synapses that signal the grey matter receptors, result in our thinking the way we do, and in some good and some bad ways, they make us what we are today.

When are we honest with ourselves? The Solitude of Self, implores us to try to do so, but, should I say IF, we are honest, we can see what we are when we do so. Too many of us are not, we hide, even to Self, what we feel, how we see in the mirror, what we want to see, not what is actually there, looking at us.

At times, we cannot control this feeling of Self, but instead, make excuses for so many things we do. I think this is normal to a degree. If we are authentic to Self, we can do much for our way of living.

It is much too easy to deceive the Self and make up things to survive in life. BUT, consider the fact that we are not sharing with others, many times, what and how we feel. We are not exposing, to others, our deep inside emotions, and we CAN be honest with the one person that does not HAVE to judge us, our own Self, at least, most of the time.

Maybe this should be entitled Self instead of what it is at the top.  Anyway, we say “Oh Hell”, and go on with life the way we do.  I have a standard saying that does go beyond the “Oh Hell”, statement.  IT is , “Oh Well”.

What does Oh Well, do for me? Well, (play on word), for one thing, it gets me by the rigors of what is going on in any given moment. I can say these two words, and then, continue what I was doing at the time. “Oh Well”, says, to me, Hey, get over it, endure, bypass the moment, deal with it, and get past the hideous situation that created itself at the time.

Self-preservation rules!  Life continues in its own way, and I am surviving the terrible time I see myself in and I do NOT give in to the convolutions of the mind that is trying to overcome me.  Well it works most of the time, and when it doesn’t, I go to bed and take a nap or something. Ha!

Oh Hell, Oh Well; two phrases that are different, but are part of MY life. Perhaps, I will welcome you to use them or one of them and I gladly share the “Oh Well” with you at this time.

Enjoyment of Life 2017-26

How should we enjoy life?  Many go about their lives, living from day to day, in an existence of getting just by, from daylight to nighttime. BUT, do we enjoy our lives in the middle? Do we enjoy our reality of living life in the fullest until the end of our human span of living? I like to envision my life now, as one that has a purpose with no promise of tomorrow, but with an enjoyment of today, good, bad or indifferent; but always as full as can be…………..

Enjoyment of Life  2017-26

Death is not a stranger

but instead is one to be recognized

as being in our midst.

Not wanted or loved,

but acknowledged as being part

of our existence.

A final act in the play of life itself.

Tomorrow is not a promise,

yesterday was a gift,

Today should be enjoyed

for and how it is.

Sun 2015-22

We take the sun for granted at times! It comes up in the East and sets in the West; quite normal. It gives off light and heat, which it is supposed to do on a regular basis. We can, at times, see ourselves on the ground, as a shadow of ourselves. Our Earth revolves around it yearly giving us the seasons of life. Take the sun away and we become – – – – .

                                      Sun      2015-22

The Sun, the giver of life

Sending out its rays to Earth

This orb, that crawls across the   sky,

Throws off it light, with all its might

Shafts filter through the spreading tree boughs

Making diamonds that sparkle in the lakes and ponds

Heat   waves shimmer off  black asphalt roads

Causing distant far mirages to appear

Many colors stab through   the clouds

Bathing us in a rainbow of hope

The Sun, so high up above

Long may it shine…..

The Cross 2014-43

The Cross 2014-43

A symbol to some, a statement for

others, a means of expression;

a way of telling a belief of

the mind in a way using no words.

A simplistic unadorned object

from the earth, representing a

means, a way of reaching the

universe, the heavens above.

An object signifying pain

and death, of cruelty beyond

description, but promising a

life of joy beyond belief.

A sign of a son of God

of suffering for the sons

and daughters of the Father

for the promise of eternal life.

Tree of Life 2014-31

Tree of Life  2014-31

One of my first poems, so long ago. After I made a dccision on a life change with a new job, this is about when I wrote this poem. I was wondering what I was going to do with my life, overall. A goal, a plan for life, a determination to do something other than just go from day to day in an existence of living. Putting a simile to life in the form of a tree is probably not new, but with its roots entrenched in the ground, its branches going in all directions, the leaves reaching toward the sun, all play into a way of life perhaps.

I climbed the tree of life one day,

To see what I could see.

The view was wild and wonderful,

Depending on the branch I’d be.

I glanced toward the future,

Looked behind at my past.

I found that if I was going anywhere,

It had better be pretty fast.

I carved my initials in that tree,

And stated right then and there.

I’m going to do something with my life,

Regardless of the wear and tear.

And when that tree is old and grown,

I’ll climb it once again.

And hopefully, at that time in life,

I’ll consider it a friend.
